Cupertino (CA) – An employment dispute between Apple and IBM has been resolved. Apple announced today that Mark Papermaster will join Apple on April 24 to lead the firm’s iPod and iPhone hardware engineering teams. He replaces Tony Fadell, who recently retired.
Mark Papermaster will carry the title of senior vice president of Devices Hardware Engineering, effectively replacing and extending the role of Tony Fadell, who recently retired from his position as senior vice president, but remains with the company as an “advisor to the CEO”. Fadell was largely credited with the invention of the original iPod more than seven years ago and the creation of Apple’s audio content strategy.

Apple’s App Store is currently experiencing a plague of fart applications. Last week, I detailed one day in which at least 14 new fart apps were accepted into the store. And now, just in a quick search, it looks like there are about 50 apps all dedicated to making fart noises on your iPhone or iPod touch. Classy, I know, but why are there so many?

Software Tracking Site iusethis Adds Support for iPhone Apps

The popular software tracking website, iusethis, has expanded its reach to iPhone users today. Members can now submit, browse and vote up iPhone applications. Due to its use of modern technology, iusethis is in a position where it can quickly develop new features, and is the first major software directory to support Apple iPhone. A democratic web application like iusethis gives a better overview of popular applications, as well as a better opportunity to see trends.
(PressReleasePoint) Oslo, Norway – The popular software tracking website, iusethis, has expanded its reach to iPhone users today. Members can now submit, browse and vote up iPhone applications.
iusethis has been serving the Macintosh community for over two years, and has planted its flag as the most innovative and community-centered software tracking site on the web. The website allows software users to mark applications they use, contributing to the application’s “iusethis” score, similar to social news site digg.
The website’s founders have been firm believers and fans of the iPhone, and were toying with the idea of an iPhone app section, even before the App Store was announced.
“We were actually thinking about doing this earlier for “jail-broken” apps, but once Apple stepped in with the App Store, an iPhone section on iusethis became a no brainer.” says co-founder Arne Fismen.

Apple Imperfect

A botched launch of MobileMe — the company’s new data-syncing service — has led Apple to make repeated offers of free services to frustrated customers. And there have been teething problems for its generally well-received 3G iPhone, including flaky reception and weak battery life.
“I’m a PC… And I Use an iPhone!”

Okay, so it’s not PC, it’s John Hodgman, the actor who plays (brilliantly) PC in the highly successful “Get a Mac” ads from Apple. But as Engadget shows, it’s definitely an iPhone he’s using.
