Apple hire IBM guru

January 27, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Cupertino (CA) – An employment dispute between Apple and IBM has been resolved. Apple announced today that Mark Papermaster will join Apple on April 24 to lead the firm’s iPod and iPhone hardware engineering teams. He replaces Tony Fadell, who recently retired.

Mark Papermaster will carry the title of senior vice president of Devices Hardware Engineering, effectively replacing and extending the role of Tony Fadell, who recently retired from his position as senior vice president, but remains with the company as an “advisor to the CEO”. Fadell was largely credited with the invention of the original iPod more than seven years ago and the creation of Apple’s audio content strategy.

Debian APT iPhone

The iPhone (or iPod Touch) is a 667MHz computer (albeit one that is only running at 412MHz) with 128MB of RAM and between 4 and 32 GB of flash. For software, it is running a pared down Mac OS X with its standard complement of a FreeBSD-based userland over a Darwin kernel. While some people wonder why anyone would attempt to use it as a Unix workstation, to me and many others it seems ludicrous not to.

Apple’s App Store is currently experiencing a plague of fart applications. Last week, I detailed one day in which at least 14 new fart apps were accepted into the store. And now, just in a quick search, it looks like there are about 50 apps all dedicated to making fart noises on your iPhone or iPod touch. Classy, I know, but why are there so many?

You’ve got to admit it, Apple got its own way to make the devices you’re using right now. Take the iPhone and iPod Touch for an example, yes it is sleek and slim, but for a mobile device especially meant to become as an entertainment device, sometimes the maximum 16GB built-in storage capacity isn’t enough for your enormous music library.

So this is where Simplify Media for iPhone/iPod Touch (requires software v2.0 or above) will come in handy to instantly expand the limited storage, in fact consider this as a way to leverage your way to access your music library not only at home network, but instead at everywhere and also share it up to 30 friends.

Innovative plug-in supports the iPhone 2.2 release for “over the air” downloads

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) December 17, 2008 — VoloMedia Inc., which provides advertising and reporting solutions for portable video and audio from the PC to devices such as iPods and iPhones, today announced Ringtales as the latest content partner to adopt the VoloMedia iTunes plug-in, extending the value of their popular podcasts by measuring ad consumption in their content wherever it is downloaded.

The New Yorker Animated Cartoons.

We’re excited to be launching VoloMedia’s new iTunes plug-in for our Dilbert animated cartoon podcast
Podcasts are our most popular distribution channel with both viewers and advertisers. The plug-in’s enhanced metrics and increased usability will ensure that the Dilbert and New Yorker animated cartoon podcasts will continue to be among the most sought after on iTunes.

Portable media such as video and audio podcasts are an increasingly vital distribution channel for publishers, especially for those with premium content that commands higher advertising value
For publishers and advertisers, our new iTunes plug-in delivers detailed and anonymous consumption metrics even for those watching videos offline. For consumers familiar with traditional browser-based functionality like sharing favorites via e-mail and discovering similar content, this is now available for video podcasts directly from the iTunes media player.
Ringtales is the publisher of “Dilbert,” recently selected by iTunes as one of the best video podcasts for 2008, and other popular podcasts such as “The New Yorker Animated Cartoons.” In addition to adopting the VoloMedia iTunes plug-in, Ringtales is driving consumer subscription and showcasing the “Dilbert” podcast to advertisers through a microsite located at http://www.volomedia.com/volocast/landing/dilbert/. By integrating VoloMedia’s iTunes plug-in, Ringtales enhances the audience reach, tracking, measurement, monetization, and reporting of their podcasts whether consumed on PCs or iPods and iPhones.

News Image The United States Air Force is already on board with an advertising campaign that targets “Dilbert” and other podcasts into which VoloMedia dynamically inserts and tracks ads.

“We’re excited to be launching VoloMedia’s new iTunes plug-in for our Dilbert animated cartoon podcast,” said Michael Fry, president of RingTales, “Podcasts are our most popular distribution channel with both viewers and advertisers. The plug-in’s enhanced metrics and increased usability will ensure that the Dilbert and New Yorker animated cartoon podcasts will continue to be among the most sought after on iTunes.”

For consumers, the plug-in provides interactive social features leveraging the “power-of-pause” for iTunes podcasts, which allow users to share, bookmark, and find related content. The user experience is enhanced by three buttons-Share, Bookmark and More-that appear whenever a video podcast is paused or reaches its conclusion. The plug-in is compatible with the recently released iPhone 2.2 operating system, which allows users to download podcasts directly to their iPhones.

“Portable media such as video and audio podcasts are an increasingly vital distribution channel for publishers, especially for those with premium content that commands higher advertising value,” said Brian Steel, CEO of VoloMedia. “For publishers and advertisers, our new iTunes plug-in delivers detailed and anonymous consumption metrics even for those watching videos offline. For consumers familiar with traditional browser-based functionality like sharing favorites via e-mail and discovering similar content, this is now available for video podcasts directly from the iTunes media player.”

The VoloMedia iTunes plug-in is integrated with VoloMedia’s Campaign Management Portal, allowing publishers and advertisers to manage media, run advertising campaigns and access reports. Customers receive timely, comprehensive metrics on media consumption, including partial downloads, completed downloads and actual consumption of content from both online and offline environments.
